.s. consulate attack. it's a mission they call it a consulate, officially it's our mission in benghazi. and last week it was deadly there. protesters again back on the streets today, as well, and our cnn's arwa damon is live on the telephone in benghazi where she's been investigating this story. so we're hearing protests yet again on the street, all of this as you're able to interview the libyan program, arwa. for starters, why is this story where you are so much different than the story here, according to the state department? >> well, there has been quite a bit of contradiction when it comes to accounts of exactly what may have transpired on september 11th that led, of course, to the horrific events at the u.s. consulate. according to the prime minister, who we spoke to, so far they have seen eight individuals who are directly related to this attack. some of them are are being described as printer members of a known splinter group although the government is saying that the group itself at this point was not involved as an organization in the attacks itself. he said that there were no foreigner

is in benghazi. >> reporter: this is the first thing fahud says he saw and filmed at the consulate compound. the cafeteria building up in flames. it was shortly before midnight september 11th. the smoke so thick the compound's main house is barely visible. and then this. after breaking through window men shout they found a body. suddenly one of them cries out, he's alive, he's alive. the crowd cheers. god is great. rushing for a car, they realize it's a foreigner. i was filming the video and i thought it was an american, fahed recalls, but i thought it was a driver or security guy. i never thought it was the ambassador. it's clear from the rest of the video that the man they pulled out was ambassador christopher stevens. fahed says he was alive but barely. he had a pulse and his eyes were moving, fahed says. his mouth was black from all the smoke. ten minutes later rushed through the benghazi streets in a civilian's car, the ambassador arrived at the hospital. but it was too late. this doctor tells us he got a code blue call. patient arrested. needs resuscitation. he too did not realize it

there was no significant or sizable demonstration when the attacks unfolded sometime after 9:35 p.m. in benghazi on 9/11. in simple terms this was not an ongoing demonstration that spiraled out of control. quote, there was no protests and attacks were not spontaneous the intelligence source said. the libyan attack was planned and had nothing to do with the movie. according to fox news's official a u.s. official did not dispute the account and talked about at small demonstration this consulate as how many separated the attack in the even u.s. official could not say adding it part of the investigation. quote, while everything is still under investigation, the available information suggests that the protests in cairo inspired what the attackers decided to do later that night in benghazi. right now this points to a plan that was hatched opportunisticly on that day. while the libyan government as well was senior members of congress briefed on the attack call it terrorism and they say it was premeditated the state department spokeswoman would still not go that far. >> again i'm not going to put labels on t

in benghazi. now al-qaeda affiliate in north africa is calling for more murders. in a statement posted on the web, terrorists urge preliminaries to kill or expel representatives of the u.s. government as retaliation for that anti-islam video that went viral last week. u.s. officials have been giving conflicting information, really, about whether that video may have played a role in the murders. ed henry is live at the white house. i guess jay carney spoke out about this today. >> he did. , and two other americans at our consulate in benghazi, libya, make clear that islamic extremist terrorism remains a tremendous threat to the middle east, the united states and the international community. if the cuts in the sequester go forward, they will fundamentally weaken our current and long-term national security andur ability to meet challenges with these challenges we are facing. implementing these cuts will remain -- will mean reductions in ship building, aircraft and missiles, shrinking our current force to levels not seen since before world war ii. and that means fewer defense-related jobs. according to a study conducted by the aerospace industries association, the job losses will reach two million. let me put that in perspective. the economy added less than 100,000 jobs last month. worse, more people dropped out of the labor force than were added to it. under the sequester, unemployment would soar from its current level up to 9%, setting back any progress the economy has made. according to the same study the jobs of more than 200,000 virginians, my own state, are on the line.

americans at our consulate in benghazi, libya, make clear that islamic extremist terrorism remains a tremendous threat to the middle east, the united states and the international community. if the cuts in the sequester go forward, they will fundamentally weaken our current and long-term national security and our ability to meet challenges with these challenges we are facing. implementing these cuts will remain -- will mean reductions in ship building, aircraft and missiles, shrinking our current force to levels not seen since before world war ii. and that means fewer defense-related jobs. according to a study conducted by the aerospace industries association, the job losses will reach two million. let me put that in perspective. the economy added less than 100,000 jobs last month. worse, more people dropped out of the labor force than were added to it. under the sequester, unemployment would soar from its current level up to 9%, setting back any progress the economy has made. according to the same stu the jobs of more than 200,000 virginians, my own state, are on the line. a small
